Renowned Urdu poet Kaleem Aajiz passes away

Well-known Urdu poet and writer Kaleem Aajiz, who earned many laurels and won some of the most prestigious awards, including one of India’s highest civilian awards, the Padmashri, died in the Indian city of Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, on Sunday. He was 95.
He will be buried on Monday, according to his Jeddah-based relative Fezaur Rahman.
Aajiz taught Urdu at Patna University for a long time.
Born in Telhada village near Patna in 1920, he was a gold medalist in B.A. from Patna College. He did his M.A. in Urdu literature from Patna University, Bihar. His doctoral thesis, “Evolution of Urdu Literature in Bihar,” is now available in the form of a book.
His first book of poetry was released in 1976 by the president of India. In the 1960s and 1970s, he was the only Urdu poet who represented Bihar at the annual Red Fort mushaira.
The greatest Urdu poet of all time, Rahgupati Sahay Firaq Gorakhpuri, was a great admirer of Kaleem Aajiz, according to journalist Anwarul Hoda.

A respected and renowned poet of Urdu. Dr Kaleem Ajiz who authored several books and classical ghazals has left an indelible mark in the Indian literary field. He did his doctorate from Patna University for his thesis on 'Evolution of Urdu Literature in Bihar' - the thesis is now available in a book form. Dr Ajiz was the only Urdu poet, in the 1960s and 1970s, who represented Bihar in the Red Fort Mushaira held every year in Delhi on the eve of Independence Day. He was a recipient of India's coveted Padmashree award for his contributions to Urdu literature. He is known for the ease in which he could express his thoughts through verses. In his words: 'Yeh pukar saare chaman mein thi, woh sehar hui woh sehar hui Mere aashiyyan se dhooan utha, to mujhe bhi iski khabar hui.' Kalim Aajiz (1920 – c.14 February 2015[1]) was an Indian writer of Urdu literature and a poet.

He was an academic and chairman of the Urdu Advisory Committee of the Government of Bihar. He served the Urdu language all his life and was widely considered a classical poet of the school of poet Mir Taqi Mir.[1][2]
