Yusif Eyvazov is a dramatic tenor, with a thriving international performing career. Additionally, he was recently appointed as the Director of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, in his home country, where he also holds the title of “People’s Artist of Azerbaijan.”
Yusif performs regularly on the stages of all of the world’s most prestigious opera houses including the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Vienna State Opera, Teatro Real in Madrid, Berlin State Opera, Royal Opera House in London, Paris National Opera, Liceu Opera Barcelona and The Metropolitan Opera, among others. The unique sound of his voice, described as “metallic, stentorian and markedly Italianate” (L.A. Times), and an outstanding stage presence have allowed him to combine an active opera career with frequent concert performances. Yusif has appeared on numerous recordings for Deutsche Grammophon including a complete recording of Puccini’s “Manon Lescaut” live from the Salzburg Festival and with soprano Anna Netrebko on the cross-over album Romanza.

Azerbaijani tenor Yusif Eyvazov made his Royal Opera debut in the 2017/18 Season as Macduff (Macbeth). He returned in the 2018/19 Season as Don Alvaro (La forza del destino).
Eyvazov was born in Algiers and studied in Italy with Franco Corelli and Ghena Dimitrova. A dramatic tenor with a specialism in verismo, he has sung for many of the world’s major opera companies. Notable performances include Dick Johnson (La fanciulla del West) and Calaf (Turandot) for the Metropolitan Opera, New York, Gherman (The Queen of Spades), Don Carlo and Des Grieux (Manon Lescaut) for the Bolshoi Theatre, Andrea Chénier for La Scala, Milan, Macduff (Macbeth) and Maurizio (Adriana Lecouvreur) for the Mariinsky Theatre, St Petersburg, Cavaradossi (Tosca) for Berlin State Opera, Calaf for Vienna State Opera, Manrico (Il trovatore) for Paris Opéra, Radames (Aida) and Des Grieux for Salzburg Festival, Andrea Chénier and Faust (Mefistofele) in Prague and Radames for Arena di Verona.

Biography
Tenor Yusif Eyvazov grew up in Baku, Azerbaijan and received his musical education at the Baku Academy of Music. In 1997, he moved to Italy and continued his studies there. In the 2015/16 season, Yusif Eyvazov makes a series of important debuts. In September 2015, he excelled as Canio in Los Angeles Opera’s production of I pagliacci conducted by Plácido Domingo, he debuted at the Metropolitan Opera (November 11, 2015) and at the Vienna State Opera (April 28, 2016), in both opera houses as Calaf (Turandot), in June 2016, he debuted at the Mariinsky Theatre in the title role of Otello with Valery Gergiev, and in July 2016, he debuted at both the Paris National Opera and at the Berlin State Opera as Manrico in Il trovatore. His Salzburg Festival debut took place in August 2016, as Des Grieux in Manon Lescaut alongside Anna Netrebko.
