Oluchi Onweagba was born on August 1, 1980. She is a Nigerian super model, entrepreneur, and television personality. She is one of the supermodels from Africa. She moved to New York in order to boost her career in modeling. She is married to Italian fashion designer Luca Orlandi.

Early Life

Oluchi Onweagba was born on August 1, 1980, in Lagos in Nigeria. She was brought up alongside two siblings. Her mother was a nurse while her father was a civil servant. When growing up, she suffered from low self esteem due to her thin body. She really tried her best to improve her self-image, but every time her thin body would bring her down. Later she was convinced by her friend to go into modeling. She participated in the Nokia Face of Africa completion and emerged a winner. She attended New York University where she graduated with a Degree in management.




Career

Her career began in 1998 when she won the Nokia Face of Africa competition. Oluchi received a contract with Elite Model Management as a part prize from the competition. In

Oluchi Onweagba-Orlandi is best known for her work as a Victoria's Secret lingerie model and a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model. She appeared in six Victoria's Secret Fashion shows in 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007. She appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue four times from 2005 to 2008.

Onweagba has modeled on the runway for Christian Dior, Chanel, Giorgio Armani, John Galliano among others. She has been in campaigns for Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Express, Gap, Gianfranco Ferré, Victoria's Secret and others. Onweagba appeared on the cover or been featured in many international fashion magazines including Elle, Arise, Pop Vogue, Vanity Fair, V and W Marie Claire, Allure among others. She has the distinction of being one of the first faces of Africa in the modeling industry and being one of the tallest at 6'0". She started her own modeling agency in South Africa in 2008 and is the host/head judge of Africa's Next Top Model.

Oluchi Onweagba-Orlandi (born August 1, 1980) is a Nigerian model.

Biography[]

She grew up in the suburbs of Lagos, Nigeria, with her two brothers and sisters. She is the daughter of a civil servant father and mother who was a nurse.

Career beginnings[]

At seventeen, she was urged by a family friend to enter into the M-Net "Face of Africa" preliminary screening at the M-Net office in Victoria Island, Lagos. The agency groomed her to be one of Nigeria's entrants for the 1998 competition (now called the Nokia Face of Africa). This despite the fact that, growing up, she had maintained a relative ignorance towards fashion and modeling. With the support of her family and friends, she decided to compete in the inaugural edition of the Face of Africa in 1998. This was the first-ever continent-wide model competition, organized by the South African channel M-Net in collaboration with Elite Model Management. She won the competition.
