Ian Hall (18 January 1940 – 11 May 2022) was a Guyanese-born British musician, composer, organist and educator. Also a human rights activist, Hall was quoted in 2003 as saying: "My real thing in life has been promoting racial harmony through the arts."[1] He was founder of the Bloomsbury International Society, through which he orchestrated musical performances "merging Western instruments with sounds from the Caribbean, Asia and Africa."[2]

Hall is considered to have been the first black graduate of Oxford University's music school.[1]

Hall was born in Georgetown, Guyana, on 18 January 1940.[3] His mother

Dr Ian Costabile is a UK-based artist, interface designer and researcher who has earned a PhD in Music Composition from the University of Liverpool. His works often explore interactivity, lighting and sound spatialisation.

AS A COMPOSER…

Ian has written experimental music for orchestra and chamber music, collaborating with renowned musicians from around the globe. His most recent musical experiments have focused on spatial sound, the use of light devices and themes relating to stars and constellations. His music has also been used as the soundtrack for documentaries, such as the award-winning Ultraviolence (dir. Ken Fero).

AS A SOUND ARTIST…

Ian has been working with sound-light installations, most notably through his Sound Canvas media, which consists of mixed media art that presents sound and light interaction through embedded loudspeakers, LEDs, sensors, microcontrollers and compact multichannel systems. Similarly, his Sound Graffiti project applies this approach to outdoor installations, creating sound webs in public spaces through customised urba

Ian Parker (born January 11, 1978) is a Canadian classical pianist.[1]

Biography

Ian Parker was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, the son of Eileen Parker and Edward Parker. His cousins James Parker and Jon Kimura Parker are also pianists.[2]

His father, Edward, a highly respected piano teacher in Vancouver,[3] taught all three pianists including Ian, beginning at the age of three. He later studied at The Juilliard School under Veda Kaplinsky, where he received a Bachelor and Master of Music degree, as well as an Artist Diploma.[4]

Career

He was the First Prize winner at the 2001 CBC National Radio Competition,[5] Mr. Parker has also won the Grand Prize at the Canadian National Music Festival, the Corpus Christie International Competition and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Competition. At The Juilliard School, he received the 2002 William Petschek Piano Debut Award and, on two occasions, was the winner of the Gina Bachauer Piano Scholarship Competition. Hea
