Magic System is an Ivorian musical group from Marcory district in Côte d’Ivoire. They include Asalfo, Goude, Tino, and Manadja. They founded this group in 1996. 

Magic System developed a reputation for high-energy live shows, which earned them an important ally, talent scout Claude Bassolet.

In 2001 the quartet released Poisson d’Avril, which shot to the top of charts from Africa to the Antilles. Simultaneously, a remix of their first mega hit, “1er Gaou,” produced by Bob Sinclar, dominated the French airwaves.

Magic system 2006 release, Cessa Kié la Vérité, earned an impressive slot on Billboard’s European Top 100.

The group entertained audiences worldwide, including stops in Morocco, Madagascar, the U.K., and Sweden, as the band’s audiences swelled to over 25,000 at individual shows. Their 2007 release, Ki Dit Mie, topped world music charts across Europe for months following its release.

In 2011, they released Toutè Kalé and quickly followed it up with the 2012 release D’Abidjan à Paris.

Ivorian musician A’salfo to become UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador

UNESCO’s Director-General, Irina Bokova will designate A’salfo as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador at a special nomination ceremony at the Organization’s Paris headquarters on 6 September to coincide with the 2012 celebration of International Literacy Day.

“A’salfo not only advocates for inclusion, social justice, and empowerment of youth in Africa, but also connects with and mobilizes young people themselves,” UNESCO stated in a news release announcing the appointment.

“His music helps young people become agents of peace and a driving force for sustainable development,” it added.

A native of Abidjan, in Côte d’Ivoire, A’salfo is lead singer of the group Magic System and is a singer of Zouglou, a popular form of dance music depicting the concerns and events of Ivorian society. Born in 1979, he has been a member of Magic System since the 1990s and is now the group’s lead singer and songwriter.

His work as a musician has also prompted him to spearhead the three-day Festival of Anoumbo Urban Music – Côte d’Ivoire’s

Magic System is an Ivorian zouglou and coupé-décalé music group, formed in 1996 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. When it was created, the group was composed of friends, the best known of whom today are A'Salfo, Goude, Tino and Manadja. The sounds drawn from zouglou ignited the African scene for more than a decade. Their songs are also used to denounce unhappiness and all forms of abuse in Ivorian society. They developed a reputation for high-energy live shows. However, dissensions arise within the group, which breaks up and gives birth to the group as it is known today with the four "magicians".
