SYLVIE VARTAN Bulgarian by birth but French by adoption, born to Armenian and Hungarian parents, Sylvie Georges moved to Paris in 1952, thus becoming a music star by embodying juvenile trends with her warm, soft voice. Rock, ye ye and twist characterized her repertory in the Sixties, replaced by disco music in the Seventies, and eventually jazz and soul. Her performances were famous for their elaborate show-dance choreography typical of a dynamic, exuberant and vital style conquering hit parades even out of the Francophone area. Her own multilingualism (Bulgarian, English, French, Italian) helped her to conquer a place in the sun very soon, too. Not only music in her career, but also cinema, television and advertising to express her creativity well, as well as her acting skills through the massive usage of facial mimicry and gesture during her live shows in particular. Sylvie Vartan was born in Iskretz near Sofia, Bulgaria. Her father, Georges Vartanianwas a Bulgarian of Armenian descent. He worked as an attache at the French embassy in Sofia. Her mother, Illona Vartanian, was Hungarian.
