She has three siblings: Amy, a professor in the United States; Tom, who works for IMG in Abu Dhabi; and Katie, who writes for Vogue. Berrington attended Cheney School and later studied development geography at King's College London, writing her dissertation on "the economic collapse of Argentina and the resulting rise of cooperativism".

Berrington was involved in youth drama but pursued a career in politics, working at the House of Commons for Labour Party MP Siobhain McDonagh of the London constituency of Mitcham and Morden. In 2009 she won a place studying in acting at the Guildhall School

"You imagine that going into such a huge American series you will come up against a lot of egos, but it was the complete opposite on 24, a dream team[.]"

Biography and career[]

While at Guildhall, she made her stage debut in the lead role of Children's Children and appeared in Michael Winterbottom's film The Look of Love, also starring Stephen Fry. After graduating in 2012, Berrington starred as Jane Shore, one of Edward IV's mistresses, in the BBC2 miniseries The White Queen, opposite James Frain. Berrington made her way into acting through an unconventional route. She studied Development Geography at Kings College in London, before landing a job in the House of Commons working for Labour MP Siobhain McDonagh. It was there that she had her acting "epiphany" and decided to audition at Guildhall, at which she played roles including Hamlet. During her final year there, she was snapped by leading acting agent Markham Froggatt and Irwin, who also represents Emma Watson. Children's Children is her professional debut and her portrayal of thoroughly dislikeable, self-centred mother and model Effie is both engaging and entertaining.

"She has so many terrible traits," Berrington says of her character. "She's superficial and completely self-involved, but she gets things done and she takes no prisoners. I wish I was a bit more like that. I enjoyed finding the truth and the reality of Effie and finding a way of justifying her behaviour. That to me in the best part of acting
