Harold Grinspoon
American real estate developer (born 1929)
Harold Grinspoon (born 1929)[2] is an American real estate developer[3] and philanthropist.[4] He is the founder of Aspen Square Management,[5] but is perhaps even more widely known for his philanthropic flagship PJ Library. In 2015, Grinspoon and wife Diane Troderman signed The Giving Pledge, and joined a growing list of leading philanthropists who have made a commitment to dedicate at least 50% of their wealth to philanthropy.[6]
Early life
Grinspoon grew up in the Auburndale section of Newton, Massachusetts. He is the son of Simon Grinspoon and Sally Rose, first and second-generation Jewish immigrants from Russia,[7] one of five children, including Martin, Lenore, Lester Grinspoon, and Kenneth.[8]
After Grinspoon graduated high school, he attended Marlboro College in Vermont, though he never graduated. To pay for tuition, he spent his summers working on an ice cream truck.[9] His first entrepreneurial pursuit was at Marlbor

Writing a literate and enlightening article about Harold Grinspoon is a daunting challenge. Not only has he been the subject of many a biographical piece, but every cliché ever penned about a mega-successful person seems to apply to him. At first I was very excited about the honor extended to me to put pen to paper and describe why he has earned every accolade in the book. A typical day for Harold begins with 1½ hours of exercise and dance in his home gym with a personal trainer. Most days he shares a healthy breakfast with someone related to his philanthropic work before moving o

Harold Grinspoon is active, intelligent, quick to crack a joke, and he is only 90 years old. A true renaissance man, he has traveled far and wide, owned and operated a successful business, and has recently begun creating massive art installations, many of which are installed in his and his wife’s, Diane’s sprawling backyard in Western Massachusetts.
He’s also the founder of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation (HGF), an organization that has helped bring numerous Jewish programs to Tidewater and has benefited Jewish communities worldwide. To date, the Foundation has invested more than $200 million in Jewish causes.
Grinspoon’s impact in Tidewater is seen in nearly every local Jewish organization. Thanks to his and the Foundation’s efforts, programs such as PJ Library and LIFE & LEGACY help enrich Jewish life in Tidewater. In addition, One Happy Camper and B’nai Tzedek Teen Philanthropy programs were inspired and modeled after HGF initiatives.
In May, three representatives from Tidewater traveled to Springfield, Mass. for HGF’s annual LIFE & LEGACY gathering. Scott Kaplan, president
