Let’s talk about your day. I thought [Carson] Mumford got stuck in the gate moto one, and then charged to tenth or something or sixteenth. Second moto he was ninth. I thought it was a good ride by Mumfy for your team. [Dilan] Schwartz was up there and went down. Up until then, he was riding good. Take us through your guys and your team today.
They all rode pretty good, it’s just if you got a start you were up there. Dilan got a start first moto and ran ninth forever and then washed the front end and the bike got on top of him and burned him pretty good. Second moto, he got a decent start and rode around 14th, something like that. So, he did fairly good. Carson got stuck in the gate first moto and came through the pack.
He said his clutch was going.
Going because he let the clutch out. Then second moto, he rode good. He was up in the top ten and finished there. Tenth overall, which is decent. LARRY, I KNOW YOU WERE A TOP MINICYCLE RACER. HOW DID MOTOCROSS BEGIN? I got a motorcycle for Christmas when I was 9. My sister and I both had motorcycles, so it was a family activity. We went to an Indian Dunes family day, and they were doing a Mickey Mouse Club race. My parents signed me up. I got third place and was pretty much addicted from that point. By John Basher
Do you remember Larry Brooks, the mini cycle amateur sensation from Southern California? What about the Larry Brooks that won three races over a 12 year professional career? Larry holds a special place in MXA’s hearts, because he was a long-time MXA test rider who appeared on the most covers of all-time. More than that, he’s a great guy. I caught up with Larry to ask what life was like as an MXA test rider, as Jeremy McGrath’s team manager, and to find out which professional racer in his opinion is the best rider in the paddock. His answers are very revealing.
What was life like as an MXA test rider? It was pretty fun, actually. I got to ride all
