A former Commissioner of Agriculture in Kano State, Hajiya Baraka Sani, has said that she is contesting for the post of National Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to improve the wellbeing of women.

Baraka, who served as a commissioner under Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, told Daily Trust in Kano, yesterday, that her contest was purely to empower women in all ramifications.

She said, “I believe PDP is a party for women to belong to because it is the party that allows everybody to grow.

“From the wealth of experience I have gathered over the years, I think it is only fair to avail these experiences in terms of skills acquisition, empowerment, enlightenment and political awareness to enhance political participation of women,” she said.

Hajiya Baraka said women’s yearning for 35 per cent participation in governance could not be achieved until they started their homework at the party level.

 

Director of Support Groups of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Management Council (PCMC) Dr Baraka Sani, has assured Nigerian students that the party’s presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar will improve and strengthen the education sector when voted into power.

Sani stated this in an address to parents and Nigerian students in Kano yesterday. She listed some of the plans Atiku has for the sector and assured parents and students that he will upgrade the educational system of the country.

“One of his plans is to improve and strengthen the educational system, to make it more efficient, accessible and qualitative.

“Atiku will work with states and critical stakeholders to carry out far reaching reforms of the system.

He will develop a knowledge driven economy, one in which the generation and exploitation of knowledge would play a predominant part in the creation of wealth.

“He will promote a system that will endeavour to catch the recipients young at a time when they are receptive to creativity and critical thinking and equip them with education and

Dr. Baraka Sani was the first female commissioner of agriculture and natural resources in Kano State from 2011-2014. During her time as commissioner, she initiated the first farmers radio in Nigeria.

She is also the brain behind the first mobile zoo in Nigeria. She coordinated the training of over 24,000 women and youths in various agricultural enterprises in Kano state including training collaboratives for youths from the 19 northern states.

Dr. Baraka Sani served as the Senior Special Assistant to the president on agriculture from 2014-2015. In that role, she implemented the first school agriculture as a business program for youths all over the country.
