Overview of Samba musician Pixinguinha

Pixinguinha, a well-known composer and musician from Brazil, was created in Rio de Janeiro in 1897. He excelled at playing the flute, clarinet, and saxophone among other instruments. Pixinguinha had a significant role in the growth of Brazilian popular music, particularly in the choro and samba genres. His compositions combined native Brazilian rhythms with jazz and classical music elements from Europe.

Pixinguinha founded Os Oito Batutas as a young guy, and the group went on to become one of the most well-known and significant bands in Brazil in the 1920s. The group's inventive arrangements and skillful performances contributed to the choro's reputation as a revered musical style in Brazil. The songs Pixinguinha wrote, such "Carinhoso" and "Lamento," are still often performed today and have come to be regarded as beloved Brazilian music classics.

Born on 23 April 1897 and baptized Alfredo Rocha Vianna Filho, the composer, flutist, saxophonist, arranger and conductor, answered actually by the name of Pixinguinha. Why am I calling him the demiurge of Brazilian popular music? The word demiurge, in its Greek origin means ‘a person who works for the public, craftsman, manual worker, producer, creator’. The philosophical use of the word, however, is due to Plato, who in his dialogue Timaeus (360b.C) uses this term to designate the divine craftsman who "fashioned and shaped" the material world. T
